2015: A Calendar Year of Blogging

This is it, my 365th post of 2015.  I didn’t post every day, but I produced one post for each and every day.  Some days I was on vacation, with family, having adventures, sick, tired, working, or any of a hundred other reasons for not posting.  But regardless of the reason, I took the day, got up the next day, and worked extra hard to keep up with it.  This is the first time I have ever completed a New Year’s Resolution, and it was certainly an ambitious one. Maybe my writing has improved, and maybe it hasn’t, but 2015...

365 Days and 365 Posts – My Year of Blogging

Today is the day that one year ago that I sat down and decided I wanted to improve my writing skills.  I decided I wanted to keep up with the latest news in the world of astronomy and space science.  I decided I wanted to learn astrophotography and renew my passion for astronomy, a passion I have had since I was 6 years old.  I decided I would write an article every day, or at least post something. And even though I didn’t write a post every 24 hours, due to vacations, family events, and life getting in the way,...

Astrophotography – New Timelapses and Planet Shots!

I’m addicted.  I love astrophotography.  I find myself spending a lot of time working no the photos, being outside trying to get the perfect shot, learning how to use my camera and other equipment, and putting together a wish list of equipment that will let me do even more!  I went outside before sunrise yesterday and managed to snap an hour’s worth of images, adding to an hour from the night before, where I attempted some star trails over the city of Toronto.  All I’ve done so far today is play with the photos and learn to make them look...

Rubik’s Cube Challenge: Did I do it?

The finale of the Rubik’s cube challenge was on Sunday, and yielded some interesting results. To confirm, I did not look at an actual cube or picture of one between the start of the challenge last Wednesday, and the finale on Sunday.  All I did was read the book on the cube solution.  Before I reveal the results let me give you a rundown of what I had to do. To make it work required memorizing a lot of steps, and learning the notation used by the book. In the above picture, the top side (T) is yellow, the Front...

Productivity, YorkUniverse 150, and Leftover comet water on Jupiter

Rather than post a bunch of simple tiny posts, I decided to go for the gusto and post something a bit more massive.  I realized recently that I blog barely once a week, which would be fine for an astronomy-only blog, but I also want to blog about interesting things in my life, which are slightly more common than ‘weekly.’ So to productivity, which for me has been lacking as of late.  I spend plenty of time doing valuable things, but not many of those things are valuable to me in the long term.  I get to work out a...
